I had been personally trying for a pretty long time to bring about a balanced state of well-being between my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-beings and I used to always find it an uphill battle. It went on like this for years before finally I found that I am able to get a hang onto it; believe me this is incredibly peaceful and satisfying.
It is more like a change in attitude along with a change in habits. I believe many people go through the same situation which I had been through. There are few.
- Confusion about what works and what not!
- Certain habits don’t work for you or you don’t feel like working for them!
I attended many events, listened to many speakers and had many motivational action spells but none of them lasted but then I finally figured out what can work for me and I believe it can work for you as well.
Well-Being Tip #1: Listen to All but Follow Your Heart
There is no single way which can work for all of us. While Exercising is for all but Regular way of Exercising may be good for some but may not suit others. Some people are self-conscious which leads them to find exercising pretty boring or unnecessary. There can be time constraints, unavailability of right space or equipment or a combination of many things.
But, you don’t have to be harsh on yourself. You just have to find a way out. Doing small tasks around the home, taking a walk to a nearby store to run an errand, taking staircase instead of lift could be your way of exercising. Maybe your Morning Walk could be taking your dog for around which may not be boring!
So, while you keep the core things core, you can change the approach as it suits you. This can help you maintain Well-Being without being harsh on yourself or pushing yourself. Moreover, being harsh on yourself doesn’t work, you just quit sooner or later.
Well-Being Tip #2: Make a parameter for realistic expectations.
We sometimes find ourselves in pretty drastic situations when it comes to taking care of our body and look healthy. Generically high or slow metabolism or if your diet chart doesn’t seem working for you, but don’t get stuck on the darker side. Do some relevant homework and research and make it better. You can start with small mental boosters like if you are having a rough time in losing or gaining weight then probably you should have a look at your mental bars. It should not be too high at the initial time. Make it proper and fair. Later on you can accelerate according to your requirements. Don’t push yourself too much. Always respect your body and its needs.
Well-Being Tip #3: Forgive Yourself
It might happen that sometimes you didn’t do that which you decided to do, you didn’t eat on time, didn’t wake up early or anything of that sort. That’s okay. Believe me. You don’t need to panic for that. Have an infinite amount of love for self.
Be Gentle, and tell yourself that next time, you will do it right. There is no need to punish yourself or feel guilty. If you do that, you basically misalign yourself, and well-being cannot happen when you further misalign with your Being. Ask yourself what is right action in right amount?
I learned this from my brother. Though the advice is very simple but being run by my Ego, I often used to feel guilt or anger or punish myself if I was not able to do something as I decided. Over time, I learned to be gentle and believe myself, it was miraculous. I am automatically becoming better and better with time; sometimes I falter, but I have given myself a little window, I am not a Robot after all and don’t have to be perfect all the time, even machines have errors!
Well-Being Tip #4: Have a healthy self-competition
Don’t try to gain all results overnight. Instead make a healthy competition with yourself, and improvise yourself every day, do a little marginally better than the previous day rather than making a big change overnight. Always start with something easy and simple, which you can easily do and then make little progress everyday beating your yesterday every day. This will help you to gain phenomenal results over time. Remember, best things go through the life to grow not jump over the lines.
Well-Being Tip #5: Experiment
What works for Jim may not work for Jenny, since each one of us are unique we need to find out what’s going to work for us and the best way to finding out is to try different things. Some things might be working best for your friends or some Guru, if it is working for you – that’s great, else try something else. There might be a better way for you. Just because something has worked for others, doesn’t mean it will work for you. So, you don’t need to force it on yourself. Just figure out what works best for you. Create your own health journey adventure.
Moreover, Your Guru is within you. You must listen to that inner voice which is always guiding you and telling you what’s best for you. Just do that. It can change over time, your Guru will keep indicating you, just listen and follow the voice.
